Some suggestions from Belgian partners...

On Monday we worked for a while with our Belgian partners who have left numerous comments to my previous post, with some suggestions to arrange the barracks.
I've collected their proposals in this picture: some of them think that this place is particularly suitable to be a meeting point for young people, some associate it with entertainment, others with culture and education, others would welcome the birth of a small business inside...

Adopting a monument: first steps

The project “Adopting a monument” aims at stimulating our awareness of the value of historical locations and to promote a new sustainable approach to the use, exploitation and enhancement of a historical monument that is a landmark for our territory.

The monument that we have chosen is the Medieval Castle located in Desenzano.
During the meeting in Italy we will realize an exhibition with second-hand materials to draw the attention of our citizens to the problem of environment.
In this blog you are supposed to make suggestions about how this space can be used and improved in a sustainable way.
Particularly, we will focus our attention on the section of "Caserma Beretta".

The barrack, built in 1880, has a seating capacity of 500 people.
In the years immediately following the Second World War, the "Caserma Beretta" was used as a refuge for displaced people.
Subsequently the barrack was used as a youth hostel and as one of the locations of the university of Brescia.
The building was completely abandoned so the municipality decided to start a renovation project with the aim of giving back to the citizens part of their history.

We invite you to find new uses for the barracks.

In the blog you can find a photograph of the barracks that can be modified according to your ideas to improve them in appearance and in use.
Send us drafts, projects, suggestions for a environmentally-friendly employment of this place.

The barracks could be used, for example, in activities addressed to young people.
During our meeting in Italy each group will present their ideas and we will welcome any suggestion.
